Day 1: Hanoi – Ha Giang

Drive to Ha Giang from your hotel in Hanoi through the Tuyen Quang Province. It will be a spectacular drive which showers you with sightseeing opportunities over the beautiful rolling hills, serene villages, and verdant rice fields. The car will stop at a village of the Black Tay ethnic minority for a short visit. Then, keep driving to Ha Giang Town and get there in the late afternoon.

Stay overnight at a homestay address.

Day 2: Ha Giang – Dong Van (B)

Have breakfast, and then get on a car to Dong Van Plateau, which has an elevation of 1.025 meters. The plateau is also home to the H’mong and Tay ethnic minorities. You will have a quick stop at the Heavenly Gate of Quan Bo, and then reach Yen Ninh Valley located amid the forested cliffs.

A must-see will be Pho Bang Town which is called “the town falling into oblivion” by most tourists. This town shelters the Hoa and H’mong ethnic groups from the city bustle; that is why the villagers have the laidback life. The on-foot adventure will go on to the Palace of H’mong King Vuong Chi Sinh. Erected in 1914, this Palace is now an evidence of the glorious past of the H’mong.

Stay overnight at a guesthouse in Dong Van

If getting there on Sunday, attend Dong Van Sunday market which is highly exciting in the early morning. Ethnic people will carry their products (vegetables, chicken cages, pigs, buffaloes, etc.) for bartering in the market. This is also a wonderful chance to try the traditional “Thang Co” food (made from horse meat, beef, pig, etc.) and drink wine.

Day 3: Dong Van – Meo Vac – Bao Lac (B)

Enjoy breakfast, and then head to Meo Vac Village which is home to the ethnic minorities of the Lo Lo and Pu Peo groups whose culture, tradition, and costumes are well-retained. If you’re looking for something exciting and different, visit the bordering point with Yunnan Province (China) from this village. The karst landscape is fabulous all year round.

Next, descend the Meo Vac Valley and contemplate the incredible terraced rice fields, twisting rivers, and serene villages rested at the bottom of the hills. The on-foot adventure will go on to Bao Lac which crosses the well-known Ma Pi Leng Pass. The natural scenery will just go beyond your imagination. And if the weather is good, you will be able to feast eyes with the paradisiac views of mountains, clouds, and romantic Nho Que River which winds its way to the sky, just like a silk ribbon. The picture of the skyline formed where the sky meets the land will be your valuable asset.

Rest at a hostel in Bao Lac.

Day 4: Bao Lac – Cao Bang (B)

This morning, you will depart to Cao Bang Province. It will be a long but very scenic drive and include some stops for you to do light exercises, take amazing photographs, and get to know the locals. Take time apprehending the local nature and people.

Stay overnight in Cao Bang.

Day 5: Cao Bang – Ban Gioc – Cao Bang (B)

Venture out to hike through the primitive conditions and reach the enthralling Ban Gioc Waterfall, ranked as Vietnam’s most beautiful waterfall. Note that the other side of the waterfall belongs to the Chinese. Next, the adventure will continue with the light trek towards the ethnic villages of the Nung and Tay minority groups. There will also be time for rafting so you can travel down a river on a raft and come to the front of the waterfall to cherish the full beauty and get the great shots.

Have a picnic lunch in the natural and fresh settings nearby the waterfall. After lunch will be the exciting discovery of Nguom Ngao Cave. Then, come back to Cao Bang and stay overnight at a local hotel.
