DAY 1: ARRIVAL – HANOI

Fly to Hanoi. Upon arrival to the airport, you well be met by our guide and transfer to you hotel.

DAY 2: FULL DAY OF HANOI CITY TOUR

Morning start our tour to discover Hanoi, a peaceful city with beautiful trees and lakes, the city has thousand years of history and culture. We will have the first impression of the city by authentic Cyclo ride from your hotel to Hanoi Old Quarter – where you can experience the real daily life activities of local people in the oldest area of Hanoi. Then you will ride by the French Quarter along wide and green typical French boulevard that can explain to you why this city so called “Paris of the East” before taking a walk to Ngoc Ha village. You can see the village as an Oasis in the middle of the city, that still keep all the typical daily life activities as well as the typical community sense of the village in Red river Delta along your walk. Then visit Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum – the symbol of the country and Presidential Palace, Presidential Garden, his House on Stilts and One Pillar Pagoda. After that, visit Temple of Literature – the central of culture of Hanoi that worship to Literature – the only subject for student to study in the feudal system just hundred years ago and Confucius. At lunch, enjoy the typical and authentic cuisine at Season of Hanoi Restaurant.

Afternoon visit Ethnology Museum in which you can study the great outline of 54 ethics people living in Vietnam. This museum is the only one in Vietnam that many artifacts display in there still exist in the life of local people but not extinct like most of the museums, that will create very good reflection about the life, culture, customs, religions and costumes of Vietnamese people.  Back to the center of the city for the short walk to discover the Old Quarter.

DAY 3: HANOI – DUONG LAM VILLAGE – PU LUONG NATURAL RESERVE

Today we will take a day excursion to the Red River Delta. Drive to the ancient village of Duong Lam, the place so called “Hoi An of the Red River Delta” as still preserve many hundred-year-old houses. It will be your unique experience as you walk along tiny ancient alleys, visit Communal House in Mong Phu hamlet – the only hamlet whose original village entrance gate remains intact, dedicated to national heroes. This is a typical Northern Vietnam village with its nice architecture. You can visit a local tofu making factory then enjoy the home hosted lunch at a local family (Mr. Huyen home). The house owner will explain to you the process and see a specialty “tuong” (sauce made from soybean and special sticky rice) which Northern Vietnam rural family use often for the daily dishes. After lunch, our guide will take you for another bike ride around rural area of Duong Lam village. You will have a chance to sample some of specialties of local food like Che Lam (local cake made from sticky rice flake with sugar and ginger), Che Kho (Mung bean cake) and BanhTe( very authentic local steam rice cake with pork, onion and mushroom in banana leave).  Back the bus to Pu Luong Nature Reserve is stretching between Mai Chau and Cuc Phuong National Park. The region benefits of rich forest, breathtaking scenery , limestone mountains, no end rice fields terraces and high variety of fauna and flora.

DAY 4: PU LUONG – WATER WHEELS & RAFTING

You will be transferred to a suspension bridge over the Cham River, where you begin your walk in search of stunning water wheels. Get up close to each wheel and discover how water is moved from river to handmade bamboo aqueducts via simple constructions of all sizes.

Arriving at a local fisherman’s house, you have a short rest to gear up for the bamboo river rafting with Dinh and his team. Float along the calm river and enjoy the reviews, in between learning how to paddle and steer your handcrafted rafts. Arriving at scenic Tan Lap bridge, you disembark to be transferred back to Pu Luong Retreat for dinner.

DAY 5: PU LUONG – NINH BINH

After breakfast transfer to Ninh Binh . Ater arriving in Ninh Binh, enjoy lunch at local restaurant then we embark for the peaceful cruise on the local sampan along Ngo Dong River, admire the great scenery while the sampan paddling along green rice field between outstanding formations of Limestone Mountain. After travelling through three caves as it showed by the name of the place, we return to the boat station. Take a short drive to visit beautiful mountain of Bich Dong, the famous place still remains 3 ancient pagodas and beautiful cave. After enjoy the panorama view of beautiful valley of rice field and limestone mountain, return to the bus and check in hotel.

DAY 6: NINH BINH – HA LONG BAY

In the morning drive from Ninh Binh to Halong Bay by Red River Delta with beautiful rice field and activities of local people along the way. Upon arrival to Halong, embark to the Junk on HonGai International Harbor. You will be welcomed by the cruise staff, enjoy the welcome drink, cruise briefing then check in your cabin. The junk will start cruising on magnificent Bai Tu Long bay while you enjoy lunch on board. It also a great chance to admire the fascinating rock formations in the bay. In the afternoon you will visit the secluded cave of Thien Canh Son then take a short cruise to Hon Co Island where you can relax on a white sandy beach, swimming or kayaking. Back to the Junk, relax and get ready for dinner.

DAY 7: HA LONG – HANOI

In the morning you can admire the sunrise on the bay from sun deck of the Junk. Enjoy the bay’s morning landscape with a cup of tea or coffee then have the breakfast in the open air. After breakfast, you will have a chance to visit Vung Vieng fishing village in a rustic rowing-boat, meet the local people and pass through the floating school and fish farms. Then back to the junk for more leisure time for swimming in the middle of the bay. The cruise will be back to the harbour while an a la carte lunch is served. At noon, disembark to the port and drive back to Hanoi

After dinner, we will drive to Quoc Oai, Ha Tay to enjoy QUINTESSENCE OF TONKIN SHOW (1 hour journey) – staged entirely on water, the open – air performance provides a broad overview of village life, from folklore to music, poetry, water puppetry, Buddhism and more. Show lasts 1 hour, then we transfer you back to the city.

DAY 8: HANOI – DONG HOI – CHAY LAP

Morning, drive to airport for flight to Dong Hoi.

Upon arrival, Pick up from Dong Hoi airport, we then drive to Chay Lap – the doorstep of the Phong Nha Ke Bang national park. Time for your refreshment and breakfast at Chay Lap farmstay

In the afternoon, we spend time on exploring Chay Lap area by bicycles, you’ll have a closer look to local life and its beautiful landscape. This is a also rough trail if you’d like to challenge your off-road ability!

Back to farmstay before sunset and enjoy some water activities (swimming, kayaking) if weather permits.

DAY 9: CHAY LAP – TU LAN CAVES SYSTEM

We have an early breakfast and take off at 8am to Phong Nha and then along Ho Chi Minh Highway to the Tu Lan headquarter camp at Tan Hoa village for a complete safety briefing and tour preparation.

Off we go. We hike across the jungle and pass through Hung Ton cave and To Mo valley. Lunch is planned at To Mo waterfall.

We keep evolving in this pristine natural environment and should reach our campsite in the afternoon between 3.30pm and 4pm. We stand in front of Hang Ken cave, right where the photographer Carsten Peter took his prize-winning photos for National Geographic magazine in 2011. We prepare our camp and then relax at Hang Ken waterfall and natural pool.

Dinner and overnight under the stars on a beautiful beach by the cave.

DAY 10: TU LAN – PHONG NHA – QUANG BINH

Breakfast is ready at 7am. No rush but no time to lose. We keep exploring the caves system with Hang Kim cave (newly discovered and featuring nice waterfalls) and then the dry Tu Lan cave and its exhibition of stalactites and stalagmites. We hike another 3 hours back to Tan Hoa village for a slightly late lunch.

At 2:30 PM, we head by to Phong Nha town.

Adventure Level: The 2-day expedition to Tu Lan is easy for anyone who considers themselves physically fit and participates in regular outdoor activities; and moderate for anyone with limited outdoor experience. You will trek approximately 12 km via overgrown jungle paths and scramble over boulders within the caves. You should be able to swim as you’ll explore a number of wet caves of varying lengths (100 m to 400 m each). You should also feel comfortable having to climb through some small passages, and also up/down a 15 m ladder (with safety rope).

Never forget you are deep in the jungle and the difficulty of this tour is also very dependent on the weather. It can get very cold during December to March (8 – 15 degrees Celsius) and very hot during June to August (32 – 38 degrees Celsius), not to mention anytime it rains the jungle becomes very slippery and muddy.

Safety is absolutely paramount on all trips, and along with having the best caving equipment, you’ll be led by one of our expert adventure guides.  No children under 16 years of age permitted on this tour.

DAY 11: QUANG BINH – VINH MOC – CUA TUNG – HUE

This morning, we drive to visit Vinh Moc, the famous tunnel that local people used in the war time. Then visit Cua Tung, the beautiful beach nearby. Drive to Hue, the first city in Vietnam has been recognized to be world heritage by UNESCO.

DAY 12: FULL-DAY HUE CITY TOUR

We will start our day by the cyclo trip from your hotel over famous Trang Tien Bridge to Dong Ba –the famous whole sales market in Hue. The cyclo even can take you by the area selling food in the market along Perfume River.  From the market, we will follow the river bank toward to the area around the ancient citadel of Hue, getting over the streets, local shops for the over view of daily life and architecture of this famous citadel. The ride will be ended at Noon gate – the main entrance of Imperial Citadel for the walking tour to the inner area of the citadel where the Nguyen Dynasty ruled from 1802 to 1945 including Flag Tower, Noon Gate, Nine Dynastic Urns, Nine Holy Cannons, Thai Hoa Palace, and Forbidden Purple City. At noon, visit Dong Thien Pagoda then experience the vegetarian lunch prepared by the nun. The Pagoda also run some kinder gartens for poor children and our visit will contribute directly to children in these classes. You also can interact with the nuns before visiting Tu Duc Tomb, discover beautiful and impressive architecture of this unique construction in Hue as well as the story of the King there. Then drive to visit Thien Mu Pagoda, the symbol of Hue city. On the way back, take a walk around Kim Long Village. It will be great chance to learn about lifestyle of local people there. Visit the hundred years old ancient house that belong the Mandarin of Royal Court in the village and talk to 84 years old lady – the granddaughter of the mandarin in the house.

DAY 13: HUE – DA NANG – HOI AN

Depart to Danang through famous Hai Van Pass. Upon arrival, visit Cham Museum with great collection of sand stone artifact from 4th to 13th century then enjoy lunch at Apsara Restaurant. Drive to Hoi An, the little attractive town very famous as living museum which was originally one of major trading centers of Southeast Asia in the 16th century. Check in your hotel in Hoi An then take the orientation walk around the town. Evening is free at leisure.

DAY 14: HOI AN COUNTRYSIDE ADVENTURE WITH SCOOTER

Star at hotel at 08h00: guide and driver pick you up at the hotel to drive to Cam Thanh. Here you can absorb the view of the resplendent village, dotted with nipa palms along the river. Then, you move on a small road to learn about herbs and other spices in the garden enjoy a break with local drink made from local herbal. Then keep driving to Thanh Ha Pottery village. Here, a stroll into the village and you will witness how local crafts, such as bowls, jars, baskets, … The next destination is Cam Kim Island. You will be taken through rice and corn fields, passing by beautiful hamlets to Tra Nhieu fishing village where you enjoy a basket boat trip to have closed look at nipa palm. After that, drive to Kim Bong carpentry village. Here you take quick visits to carving workshop, a family making noodles, and rice paper in the village, then transfer to Hoi An Ancient town.

DAY 15: HOI AN COOKING CLASS – MY SON

In the morning, you will join to authentic cooking class in The Market Restaurant. We visit Hoi An’s colorful and bustling market where participants learn about the uses of different fresh noodles, how to recognize and buy fresh fish, herbs and their uses in Vietnam, fresh and dried spices – their uses in our recipes and medicinal purposes, rice and grains, see and taste exotic fruits.

On our return to The Market Restaurant we tour the many different Street Food counters, seeing live cooking demonstrations, learning how to make many different recipes with food tastings along the way. See bread for our Banh Mi or baguettes being made in front of you and then taste the baked bread fresh from the oven. Rice and water being ground to make rice water to make noodles, rice flour crepes, dumplings and rice paper dried on bamboo and grilled to eat with Hoi An chili sauce. See our famous dish of Cao Lau, the noodles being made by hand and steamed over an open fire. We offer a choice of traditional Vietnamese teas served with homemade Hoi An cupcakes made freshly in front of you. Taste sweet treats and candy that we eat at Tet our Vietnamese New Year celebrations. And much more …..

The cooking lesson runs about 2.5 hours – our cooking teachers first demonstrate each dish before we prepare the same dishes ourselves. After the lesson we sit down and eat what we have cooked. You will receive a copy of the recipes and a Vietnamese cooking utensil to take home.

In the afternoon, we will drive to My Son, the Holly land of Champa kingdom date back from 4th to 13th century. Arrive to My Son before sunset and not many other tourist, you will have great chance to discover and feel the great ancient atmosphere of the complex of nearly 70 difference towers there, where you can find the best brick sculpture in the world and learn about the influences of Hinduism to their. My Son also had been recognized to be culture world Heritage in 1999. Back to Hoi An in late afternoon.

DAY 17: HOI AN – DA NANG – SAIGON

Free at leisure until the time transfer to airport for flight to Saigon. Upon arrival, take tour to Reunification Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral, Central Post office. Afternoon take a tour Ngoc Hoang Pagoda, where hundreds of local people come and burn the incense for their luck, prosperity and happiness. After that, visit History Museum, where you can see great outline of the 4000 years history of the country.

DAY 18: FULL DAY TO TAY NINH AND CU CHI TUNNELS

Morning depart for Tay Ninh, the head quarter of Cao Dai religion. On arrival we will have time to visit the impressive Holy Temple of Caodaism, the famous local religion that is the symbol of the curious combination of the Confucianism, Taoism, Christianity and Buddhism before attending the fantastic mid-day mass. After having lunch in local restaurant, drive to Cu Chi, the famous network of tunnels were used as the base from which the Vietnamese mounted their operations of the Tet Offensive in 1968. The Cu Chi Tunnels consist of more than 250km of underground tunnels. This main axis system has many branches connecting to underground hideouts, shelters, and entrances to other tunnels, the tunnels are between 0.5 to 1m wide, just enough for a person to crawl along. Transfer back to Saigon.

DAY 19: SAIGON – CAIBE -VINH LONG – CAN THO

This is an ideal option for those who wish to have a real experience on the landscape, local people, and rich culture of the Mekong Delta. The tour will be incomplete without cycling on narrow road along small side canal to visit the local traditional handicrafts.

A 2-hour drive southwest from Saigon will take you to the Mekong Delta, the largest rice basket of the country with friendly farmers who always wave hello when you come across. This tour will offer you a chance to explore the unique lifestyle and culture at the Cai Be land as well as traditional handicrafts on Tan Phong Island. The most special thing about this tour you will feel relaxed and excited while cruising along the river is to take a deeply insight into the great combination of local cultures and sceneries in this gorgeous water way region. It’s all sure to bring you unforgettable moments ever. Board your wooden charming boat, the Mekong Queen, at Ba Ton’s local pier and start cruising on Mekong River while sampling local fresh fruits, letting the cool breeze touch your hair, you will find the place a truly destination to spend the day relaxing.

Leave the boat for a while to visit the local business where you can interact with the local people to learn more about their daily life. Continue with your boat through the “heart” of the town’s trading activities with lots of lots of floating vendors lining up their boats in the middle of the river with their agricultural products hung on bamboo poles. This is not the biggest floating market but it is good to understand the life of the river, one of the tourist magnets of the Mekong Delta. Disembark the boat when reaching Tan Phong Island where you will start a very interesting cycling tour through small village shady road. You will be surprised by the way the locals trade and advertise their local products. Ride along the concrete road of 1m width, you will take the opportunities to visit local families of making traditional products such as handicraft items made from water hyacinth; house roof made from palm leaves; hammock made from coconut ropes; rice papers; and local hats. After a sad farewell to your crews, enjoy a home-hosted lunch with Mekong Delta specialties at an ancient house before driving back to Saigon.

Note: Motorbike will be an option for those who can’t bike. Guests ride as passenger behind a safe motorbike driver.

*Detailed itinerary:

  • 07:30 am: Depart from Saigon
  • 09:30 am: Arrive at Ba Ton Bridge and start boarding the Mekong Queen
  • 09:45 am: Stop to visit the local rice wine making family (nhà nấu rượu)
  • 09:55 am: Continue your cruise to the local rice husking factory (nhà chà lúa thô sơ)
  • 10:30 am: Stop for a quick visit of a local brick factory (subject to availability)
  • 10:40 am: Board the cruise passing by Cai Be floating market and onto Tan Phong Island
  • 11:30 am: Start a leisure 45’ cycling trip with stops en route to visit the local handicraft making families.
  • 12:30 pm: Embark on the Mekong Queen for a 15min cruise to the mainland.
  • 01:00 pm: Enjoy lunch at an ancient house

Back to the bus to drive to CanTho, the capital city of Mekong Delta. Upon arrival, check in your hotel in Can Tho.

DAY 20: CAN THO – CHAU DOC

Morning take the early boat trip to visit Cai Rang floating market where local people whole sale all product of Mekong Delta. It will be great chance for taking part to the local activities and taking pictures. The boat will take you around the floating market 2 times to make sure that you will have enough opportunities for taking photos here. Then the boat will take you to visit the local bustling inland market where you can see all local products of Mekong Delta selling here. From the market, take the short ride on boat to the small local alley that you can walk along and experience the real daily life activities of local people here. Take the pleasant walk along the local village by the river bank and integrate with local people there before getting to local Rice Processing Factory. You will know exactly how the white rice had been made from paddy rice in here.  From here walk back to the car then transfer to Sao Hom Restaurant for lunch.

Then drive to Chau Doc, visit Tra Su Bird Sanctuary, a protected National Park in the Mekong Delta region. About an hour’s drive away, you will enter a beautiful and well preserved flooded forest area. Take a boat ride to the middle of forest to observe various kinds of birds like Stork, Heron, Waterhen or Kingfisher.  Head up to a 23 m high observation tower where you can have a panoramic view of canopy trees and flocks of birds.

DAY 21: CHAU DOC – DONG THAP – SAIGON

Breakfast at hotel then drive to Dong Thap, on the way visit Tam Nong Sanctuary, where there is amazing natural scenery and a rich diverse ecosystem.

Tourists go around Tam Nong sanctuary by motorboats, watch 130 different floras. Additionally, the place is also an ideal habitat of hundreds species of vertebrate, dozens species of fish, and over 198 species of water-bird, approximately equaled to ¼ of birds in Vietnam. Among those are many species of rare and valuable birds, including white-winged duck, grey-headed lapwing, pelican, lesser adjutant, especially sarus crane. From the end of December to the beginning of May annually, the cranes migrate to Tam Nong sanctuary. Coming to the sanctuary at this time, tourists will see each flock of cranes mingling with other kinds of birds to feed.

13.00: tourists have lunch at Tam Nong national sanctuary.

14.00: return to Ho Chi Minh city. On the way back, our bus stops at My Hiep to buy some Dong Thap gifts, such as Lai Vung “nem”, Cao Lanh sweet mango, Chau Thanh longan.

18.00: arrive to Ho Chi Minh city and drop you off at your hotel.
