DAY 1: ARRIVAL – HANOI

Fly to Hanoi. Upon arrival to the airport, you well be met by our guide and transfer to you hotel.

DAY 2: FULL DAY OF HANOI CITY TOUR

Morning start our tour to discover Hanoi, a peaceful city with beautiful trees and lakes, the city has thousand years of history and culture. We will have the first impression of the city by authentic Cyclo ride from your hotel to Hanoi Old Quarter – where you can experience the real daily life activities of local people in the oldest area of Hanoi. Then you will ride by the French Quarter along wide and green typical French boulevard that can explain to you why this city so called “Paris of the East” before taking a walk to Ngoc Ha village. You can see the village as a Oasis in the middle of the city, that still keep all the typical daily life activities along your walk. Then visit Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum – the symbol of the country and Presidential Palace, Presidential Garden, his House on Stilts and One Pillar Pagoda. After that, visit Temple of Literature – the central of culture of Hanoi. Lunch at Season of Hanoi Restaurant.
Afternoon visit Ethnology Museum in which you can study the great outline of 54 ethics people living in Vietnam. Back to the center of the city for the short walk to discover the Old Quarter. Your tour will be concluded with great experience of Water Puppet show – the unique art of Vietnamese people from Red River Delta.

DAY 3: HANOI – DUONG LAM VILLAGE – MAI CHAU

After breakfast drive first to the ancient city of Duong Lam. Take a stroll through the tiny ancient alleys with it’s houses, built 100 years ago. You also got the chance to take a bike ride in the rural area around the village. After lunch continue to Mai Chau, a mosaic of rice fields, bamboo groves and scattered settlements of the White Thai people. Spend the night in a local house of the Thai.

DAY 4: MAI CHAU – NINH BINH

This morning we will take a walk to visit the villages and rice field before breakfast at the house on the stilts. Drive towards Ninh Binh. On route visit Hoa Lu, which was the 3rd capital of Vietnam during 10th and 11th century. After lunch visit Bich Dong, a small limestone mountain with 3 beautiful pagodas and great views. Go on to Tam Coc and board a local sampan on the Ngo Dong river. Enjoy the great scenery with limestone mountains and and observe the rural life here in the country side. Finally passing 3 caves and return to the boat station. Transfer to the hotel in Ninh Binh for overnight.

DAY 5: NINH BINH – HALONG BAY

In the morning drive from Hanoi to Halong Bay by Red River Delta with beautiful rice field and activities of local people along the way. Upon arrival to Halong, embark to the Junk on Hon Gai International Harbour. You will be welcomed by the cruise staff, enjoy the welcome drink, cruise briefing then check in your cabin.

13h30 – 14h30 : Have lunch in the outdoor dining room ( depending on the weather condition ) while cruising to magnificent Bai Tu Long Bay, admire the fascinating formations on the way

15h30 : Arrive at Mua Hoa area to enjoy swimming or kayaking through the mystery Karst Mountains.

17h30 : Back to the boat for refreshing yourselves in the outdoor or indoor Mineral Seawater Pook, Fitness room or enjoy the spa and massage services while cruising to Cap La area.

DAY 6: HALONG BAY: CAP LA – VUNG VIENG FISHING VILLAGE – THIEN CANH SON

07h00 – 08h00 : Start a new day with Tai Chi on the sundeck & morning view of Bay’s landscape with a cup of tea or coffee.

08h00 – 08h30 : Have breakfast in the fresh air while cruising to Vung Vieng Fishing Village.
09h50 : Visit Vung Vieng fishing village by a rustic row-boat.
11h30: Swimming, kayaking or visiting Thien Canh Son cave
12h30: Having a BBQ lunch on the beach
15h00: Back to the boat and start cruising to Cong Dam or Cua Lach area ( depending on weather conditions ) to explore the mystery Karst Mountains.
19h00: Having dinner onboard.

DAY 7: HA LONG BAY – HANOI – HUE BY TRAIN

07h00: Start your day with a cup of tea or coffee. Have breakfast in the fresh air
09h30 – 10h00: Start cruising towards the harbor. Enjoy the scenic on the way. Check out cabin and pack your luggage.
10h45 : Buffet lunch will be served
11h30 – 12h00 : Disembark , drive to Yen Duc village in Dong Trieu province for a short break in this typical Vietnamese agricultural village which is rich in culture and traditions.
13h30 – 14h00 : Enjoy water puppet show performed by local artists.
17h00: Arrive in Hanoi. Then transfer to railway station for night train to Hue.

DAY 8: HUE CITY TOUR

Morning take a cyclo trip from your hotel over famous Trang Tien bridge and Dong Ba market. The cyclo will take you around the ancient citadel of Hue, getting over the streets, local shops for the over view of daily life and architecture of this famous citadel. Stop at Noon gate of Imperial Citadel for the walking tour to the inner area of the citadel where the Nguyen Dynasty ruled between 1802 and 1945 including Flag Tower, Noon Gate, Nine Dynastic Urns, Nine Holy Cannons, Thai Hoa Palace, and Forbidden Purple City. At noon, visit Dong Thien Pagoda then experience the vegetarian lunch prepared by the nun. The Pagoda also run some kinder gartens for poor children and our visit will contribute directly to children in these classes. You also can interact with the nuns before visiting Tu Duc Tomb, discover beautiful and impressive architecture of this unique construction in Hue as well as the story of the King there. The rest of the day is free at leisure. Free dinner.

DAY 9: HUE – DANANG – HOIAN

Morning we drive to visit Thien Mu pagoda, the symbol of Hue city then take a walk around Kim Long Village where you can visit the original ancient house of the former mandarin, mingle with local people and experience their daily activities in the village. Then drive to Danang. Upon arrival to Danang, visit famous Cham Museum with great selection of sandstone sculptures from 4th to 13th century then have lunch at Apsara Restaurant. Drive to Hoi An, on the way stop at China Beach. Check in the hotel and take the orientation walk to the town. The rest of the day is free at leisure.

DAY 10: FULL DAY HOI AN CITY TOUR

Morning take a walking tour to Hoi An ancient town. Visit Thang Loi Handicraft workshop in Phan Chu Trinh Street. You will have the chance to experience all the typical traditional handicraft of Hoi An, such as wood carving, mat weaving, lantern making, silk worm raising, spinning and weaving, table cloth making and embroidery picture. These handicrafts made great contribution to upgrade living standard of local people since Hoi An turn to be popular destination for the tourists. Then take a walk to Hoi An ancient town. We will start the walk from small alley from Phan Chu Trinh Street to Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street. This is the typical ancient street of Hoi An, that can show you great atmosphere of the ancient town. Visit the Japanese Cover Bridge – the symbol of Hoi An. After that visit Tan Ky, the most well known and authentic ancient house in town. Then take a walk along the Nguyen Thai Hoc – the ancient street of Hoi An to the market of the town. Visit the local market and Phuc Kien Congressional Assembly Hall, the communal place for Chinese community from Fukien province in China as well the worshiping temple to Thien Hau, the Goddess protecting people on the sea – that was so important for the Chinese Merchant and Fishman in the past. Then you have free time for discovering the town on your own or shopping.

Afternoon depart for the cyclo trip to Cam Nam Village (this is exclusive discovery feature of ICT). The cyclo will take you from the town to Cam Nam Bridge. You will have the first stop for the photo opportunity of the activities and scenery on the Thu Bon River. Then the cyclo will take you along the Thu Bon River bank, where you can have another photo stop for panorama view of Hoi An from other side of river. You will ride along the riverside and cycle through local villages of Cam Nam. This is untouched area by tourism with very friendly and hospitable local people. You can see their daily life activities or even viewing the interior of their house and their life through always opened doors. The cyclo trip will be ended at green small canal covered by water coconut trees. Embark on the boat and take a cruise to Thu Bon River. You can experience the local daily life along river, such as fishing, farming, catching clam …. Come back to Hoi An around sunset time.

DAY 11: FUN & RELAXATION IN TRA QUE VILLAGE

Start at 08h30: The local guide will meet you at your hotel, check your bike and as a group begin to cycle to visit a lantern workshop. Here in the ancient town you can witness the creation of exquisite lanterns, whereby you can learn how to make a lantern with the craftsman’s support. Continue cycling for an hour through the rice fields and peaceful villages that showcase areca flora. A stop to have fun with buffalo riding. After this, you will arrive in Tra Que Village where you will take a stroll through the garden and learn the different types of culinary herbs and vegetables. Next, you will visit a local family and talk with them about their daily activities and life in the village. For your next stop, a farmer will introduce you to the routine life of vegetable farming, and show you how to use local farming facilities and tools. You will then come back to the restaurant where you will enjoy a relaxing footbath in traditional herbs and a rejuvenating 30-minute foot massage. Finally, you will learn how to make pancake then enjoy your compliment before cycling back to Hoi An, which completes the tour.

DAY 12: HOI AN FREE DAY

DAY 13: HOI AN – DA NANG – SAIGON

Breakfast at hotel , then our driver will transfer you to airport for flight to Saigon . Upon arrival take tour to Reunification Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral and Central Post office then have lunch at Pho 2000 Restaurant. In the afternoon take a tour to China town, the special identity of Saigon. Visit Thien Hau Pagoda, where hundreds of local people come and burn the incense for their luck, prosperity and happiness. After that, take a walk around Cho Lon, the biggest whole sale market in town. It is great combination of busy and bustle atmosphere of the market and traditional Chinese Architecture there.

DAY 14: SAIGON – CAI BE – VINH LONG – CAN THO

This is an ideal option for those who wish to have a real experience on the landscape, local people, and rich culture of the Mekong Delta. The tour will be incomplete without cycling on narrow road along small side canal to visit the local traditional handicrafts.

A 2-hour drive southwest from Saigon will take you to the Mekong Delta, the largest rice

basket of the country with friendly farmers who always wave hello when you come across. This tour will offer you a chance to explore the unique lifestyle and culture at the Cai Be land as well as traditional handicrafts on Tan Phong Island. The most special thing about this tour you will feel relaxed and excited while cruising along the river is to take a deeply insight into the great combination of local cultures and sceneries in this gorgeous water way region. It’s all sure to bring you unforgettable moments ever. Board your wooden charming boat, the Mekong Queen, at Ba Ton’s local pier and start cruising on Mekong River while sampling local fresh fruits, letting the cool breeze touch your hair, you will find the place a truly destination to spend the day relaxing.

Leave the boat for a while to visit the local business where you can interact with the local people to learn more about their daily life. Continue with your boat through the “heart” of the town’s trading activities with lots of lots of floating vendors lining up their boats in the middle of the river with their agricultural products hung on bamboo poles. This is not the biggest floating market but it is good to understand the life of the river, one of the tourist magnets of the Mekong Delta. Disembark the boat when reaching Tan Phong Island where you will start a very interesting cycling tour through small village shady road. You will be surprised by the way the locals trade and advertise their local products. Ride along the concrete road of 1m width, you will take the opportunities to visit local families of making traditional products such as handicraft items made from water hyacinth; house roof made from palm leaves; hammock made from coconut ropes; rice papers; and local hats. After a sad farewell to your crews, enjoy a home-hosted lunch with Mekong Delta specialties at an ancient house before driving back to Saigon.

Note: Motorbike will be an option for those who can’t bike. Guests ride as passenger behind a safe motorbike driver.

– 07:30 am: Depart from Saigon
– 09:30 am: Arrive at Ba Ton Bridge and start boarding the Mekong Queen
– 09:45 am: Stop to visit the local rice wine making family (nhà nấu rượu)
– 09:55 am: Continue your cruise to the local rice husking factory (nhà chà lúa thô sơ)
– 10:30 am: Stop for a quick visit of a local brick factory (subject to availability)
– 10:40 am: Board the cruise passing by Cai Be floating market and onto Tan Phong Island
– 11:30 am: Start a leisure 45’ cycling trip with stops en route to visit the local handicraft making families.
– 12:30 pm: Embark on the Mekong Queen for a 15min cruise to the mainland.

DAY 15: CAN THO – CHAU DOC

Morning take the early boat trip to visit Cai Rang floating market where local people whole sale all product of Mekong Delta. It will be great chance for taking part to the local activities and taking pictures. The boat will take you around the floating market 2 times to make sure that you will have enough opportunities for taking photos here. Then the boat will take you to visit the local bustling inland market where you can see all local products of Mekong Delta selling here. From the market, take the short ride on boat to the small local alley that you can walk along and experience the real daily life activities of local people here. Take the pleasant walk along the local village by the river bank and integrate with local people there before getting to local Rice Processing Factory. You will know exactly how the white rice had been made from paddy rice in here.  From here walk back to the car then transfer to Sao Hom Restaurant for lunch.

Then drive to Chau Doc, visit Tra Su Bird Sanctuary, a protected National Park in the Mekong Delta region. About an hour’s drive away, you will enter a beautiful and well preserved flooded forest area. Take a boat ride to the middle of forest to observe various kinds of birds like Stork, Heron, Waterhen or Kingfisher.  Head up to a 23 m high observation tower where you can have a panoramic view of canopy trees and flocks of birds.

DAY 16: CHAU DOC – PHNOM PENH BY SPEED BOAT

Breakfast at hotel then our driver transfer you to harbor check in speedboat to Phnompenh

13:00 – 13:30 : Arrival at Sisowath Quay International Port Phnompenh ( arrival time may vary due to current and immigration formalities ) . Upon arrival, our guide and driver will pick you up at the Quay and transfer to visit : Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda and Wat Phnom.

DAY 17: PHNOM PENH – SAMBOR

Meet with tour guide and transfer to the Kampong Thom via Kampong Cham by private car. On the way stop to visit Skun.

Kampong Cham is a lively port on the banks of the Mekong River with some good examples of colonial-era architecture. After visiting the Local Market and exploring the town, travel in to the countryside to Phnom Pros (“Man Hill”) and Phnom Srei (“Woman Hill”). According to local tradition, two teams of men and women competed to build a stupa on the summit of each hill before dawn. After being tricked into thinking that daybreak had already come, the men lost the competition and, as a result, forever after had to be the ones to approach the women for their hands in marriage. Continue to Wat Norkor Bacheay, a thriving modern-day monastery founded on a 11th century Mahayana Buddhist shrine.

By vehicle from Kampong Cham to Kampong Thom (138KM from Kampong Cham).

Continue to the modern-day shrines of Wat Andri, a thriving monastery, and climb the 980 steps of the holy mountain Phnom Santuk, enjoying the colorful, somewhat ecletic shrine at the peak as well as lovely views over the surrounding countryside.

DAY 18: SAMBO PREI KUK – ANGKOR WAT

Visit Sambor Prei Kuk: Sambor Prei Kuk, which is dotted with hundred Pre-Angkor styled temples. The site, part of the Chenla Kingdom, includes an area of nearly 1000 acres enclosed by double walls, and hundreds temples and towers; its construction predates Angkor Wat by several centuries. The road conditions are very poor, but the spectacular scenery, with a mixture of temples and forest makes the hardship all worthwhile. After seeing this landmark we make our way towards Siem Reap and pass through various Khmer traditional villages.

On route you may wish to stop off in Kampong Kdei, to look at Spean Pratos – an ancient Angkorian bridge. About 35km from Siem Reap we turn on brand new road that leads to the edge of the lake.

Before arriving Siem Reap, we take a local boat to Kampong Khleang, meaning the village of the stilts, a lively commercial fishing village located south on the edge of the Tonle Sap lake. All houses are stilted and some are up to four & five meters tall. Enter the stilted village, now flooded and travel through this large town through to a more separate Vietnamese village on to the edge of the Tonle Sap.

DAY 19: ANGKOR THOM AND ANGKOR WAT

In morning, by TUK TUK & guide, explore the Angkor complex include the South gate of Angkor Thom and Giant Faces of Bayon, Baphoun, Elephant Terraces, Leper King Terrace, the Royal Palace area.

Afternoon visit Ta Prohm & Angkor Wat.

The day ends with a visit to Phnom Bakheng Mountain where we climb to its summit for a spectacular sunset view over the surrounding landscape.

DAY 20: SIEM REAP TOUR

In the morning, with guide, start the tour at 07:00am, we drive through the beautiful countryside landscapes of Cambodia to visit Banteay Srei temple & Banteay Samre Temple.

In the afternoon, visit Beng Mealea temple, built By Jayarvaman VII; in the style of Angkor Wat; its scale is huge; being well over one square Kilometre within its moat. Approached by a four cause ways; Beng Mealea appears to be a huge pile of rubble partially hidden in the trees. Once you get closer the high walls, the ancient Khmer Architecture reveals itself. Cloaked in vegetation and with few concessions to tourism; this temple looks like it would have done when the early French explorers found it.

Then, end of the day with visit Rolous Group including of Bakong, Lolei and Preah Ko temples.

DAY 21: SIEM REAP – LUANG PRABANG

Morning transfer to the airport for the short flight from Siemreap to Luang Phrabang. Meet upon arrival, you are welcome to Luang Prabang, the ancient first capital of Lane Xang kingdom, the center of religious life in Laos and today the World Heritage City. Transfer to the town and check in your hotel.

In the afternoon, we take a sightseeing tour of the sacred city of temples, of which nearly fifty temples still remain in the town and surrounding areas. Visit Wat Visoun, the 16th century temple served as a small museum for religious artifacts; Wat Aham, the early 19th century temple, whose two guardian figures at the foot of the steps which represent two characters from the Ramayana – Hanuman, the Monkey God and a fierce Yaksa; Wat Xiengthong, the 16th century temple which, more than any temples in LuangPrabang, epitomizes all the elegance and grace of LuangPrabang architecture; Phousi Hill, the 328 steps leads to the summit of Phousi hill that dominates the sky-line of LuangPrabang overlooking the finest panoramic view in the whole Luang Prabang.

DAY 22: LUANG PRABANG – PAK OU CAVE

Following breakfast, we depart hotel to the boat landing, and take an excursion (a few hours) by boat, upstream on the Mekong to visit Pak Ou cave in the side of a lime stone cliff and opposite of the mouth of the Mekong and Ou rivers. The sanctuaries at Pak Ou consist of two large caves, both repositories for thousands of Buddha images, which range from mere centimeter to two meters in height.

En route, Lao typical villages are barely visible behind a screen of foliage. Slender canoes bobbing by the shore, bamboo poles and floats mark the location of nets and fish traps. Our first stop will be at Ban Muangkeo, a well-known village for Lao traditional rice whisky, namely Laoh-Khao to be distilled. We are welcome to taste it and also take away. Lunch is at a riverside restaurant.

We arrive back at LuangPrabang in late afternoon, and continue by car to outskirt of town to visit Ban Xangkhong, a well-known village for its wood paper making and also Lao silk weavings with natural dyes.

DAY 23: LUANG PRABANG – KUANGSI WATERFALL

A morning breakfast, before we take a drive (30 km South) to visit Kuangsi Waterfall, which, though not very high, is spectacular and really beautiful with its green surroundings as the preserved National park. We stop en-route, to visit a fresh produced market namely Talad Phosy, and also visit Ban Na Oune, a small village of a hill-tribe group “Hmong”, probably the best-known minority group in Laos. Just before arriving at Kuangsi waterfall, there is another village of Khmu minority group, namely Ban Tha Pane that we will visit.
Our picnic lunch is served at the shady park nearby Kuangsi waterfall. There is plenty of time for relaxing and a swim in cool water, before we head back to Luang Prabang in the late afternoon. The rest of the day is spent by visiting various craft-shops, including silver smiths’ and also Hmong market in town, where some skilled embroidery-works of Hmong ladies can be seen.

DAY 24: LUANG PRABANG – XIENG KHOUANG

After breakfast, we take our long trip by road about 8-9 hours from Luang Prabang over the high land through beautiful nature and scenic views to Xiengkhouang, the province which is best-known for having been heavily bombed during Indochina War, apart from the famous historic Plain of Jars. Arrive in Phonesavanh (Xiengkhouang), transfer to our hotel for check-in.

DAY 25: XIENG KHOUANG

After breakfast, we drive (10 km SE of Phonesavanh) to visit the Plain of Jars, the archaeological stone Jars, which dated back at least 2000 years ago and also continue to visit the Plain of Jars (site 2). We en-route visit villages of Hmong minority group, where we can learn more about their housing, living and working conditions which are completely different from others.

In the afternoon, we drive to Muang Khoune, the old capital of Xiengkhouang, which was heavily damaged during the war, but there are still some former French settlement and hospital to be seen as well as the damaged famous temple of Wat Phia Wat.

DAY 26: XIENG KHOUANG – VIENTIANE

Breakfast at hotel, before waving good bye to Xiengkhouang, it is also interesting to visit both food and central markets in town. Transfer to airport for departure by QV flight to Vientiane, the city of the moon – an ancient city, situated on the bend on the left bank of the Mekong as the largest city and the capital of Laos. Arrive in Vientiane and transfer to hotel for check-in.

In the afternoon, we take a sightseeing tour of Vientiane, to visit religious museums of Wat Sisaket, the oldest temple to have been survived from the Siamese war of 1828 and its cloister contains more than 8000 Buddha statues; Wat Ho Prakeo, the former home-temple of the Emerald Buddha statue or PraKeo, but today it contains a collection of Buddha statues, antiques and all artifacts found in around Vientiane; That Luang Stupa, the single most important monument in Laos, which was built to cover the original small stupa containing a piece of the chest bone of Buddha; Patouxay (Arch de Triumph), built quite recently in commemoration of those who died during the wars in the past and it is today as the land-mark of Vientiane.

DAY 27: VIENTIANE – DEPARTURE

You will have free time at leisure for discovering Vientiane on your own till your departure time to the airport for the flight home. End of  27 Days Grand Indochina Tour.
