Hanoi Vietnam is rich in history and culture that attracts visitors to the capital city for various interests. While some people are fond of the well-preserved historical landmarks, the others take it a must to see the local cultural performances. Hanoi is proud of the water puppetry art, and now the city wins praises for The Quintessence of Tonkin – the brilliant spectacle of culture.
The Quintessence of Tonkin – the Art Show of Culture, History, and Light
From October 2017, Hanoi welcomes the biggest and most impressive live entertainment project: The Quintessence of Tonkin – the cultural essence of the northern Vietnam in which the audiences enjoy the art and cultural performances enhanced by the art of light and color. The Tonkin Show is inspired by the legendary history about the establishment of the nearby Thay Pagoda. The story says that the pagoda was found by the honorable monk named Tu Dao Hanh, and it clarifies the historical union between the religion and the monarchy. The strengths of The Quintessence of Tonkin in Hanoi lie on the hundreds of devoted performers, the interactive and fabulous stage, and the leading technology. All top elements create the fantastic spectacle to beautify your travel to Vietnam.
During the Show, you will enjoy the 6 aspects of the cultural spectacle of The Quintessence of Tonkin namely Poetry, Buddhism, Nostalgia, Music & Painting, and Joy & Festivities. There, you join the cultural and historical world to learn about the Northern Delta people’s daily life activities, the story of the respectable monk Tu Dao Hanh as well as the history of the antique Thang Long Royal Palace via the traditional water puppetry art.
Regarding the performers of the Show, there include two groups. The first group is made up of the local farmer families who display their daily activities and experiences to the audiences. The second group is young and devoted including the students from the Hanoi College of Dance who add the spirit of youth and energy to the Tonkin Show.
What’s more, the theater itself is the state-of-the-art constructional masterpiece. It covers the natural lake transformed to be the stage for the water puppetry art, supported by the modern hydrothermal system which is capable to raise the 15-ton Thuy Dinh Pagoda beneath the water up the ground just within a minute. Also, the Thay Mountain with the spectacular background is lightened up with the exceptional illumination system, with the capacity of 1.5km away, thanks to 40 lamps of 1500 watts.
The beauty of the Show is greatly contributed by the colorful costumes made of the raw materials (cotton and silk) and conventional patterns. For the purpose of correctly showcasing the local history and culture, the costumes are made under the supervision of the reliable historian as well as the artisans. The thoughtfully organized Show ensures the domestic and international audiences to feel satisfied with this cultural experience, and more and more people will savor The Quintessence of Tonkin Hanoi.
