Vietnam visa reserved for foreign travelers in Vietnam through the local travel agencies program may be exempted

This information was shared by Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, General Director of the Tourism Commission during the conference organized on April 12 summarizing the tourist activities the first three months of the year 2016.

Visa is much used as a tool of competition in international tourism. Many countries in the region such as Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand have increased the number visa exemption. Indonesia has exempted visas for citizens of 79 countries at the same time, or 169 countries in total. According Mr.Tuan, the trend is irreversible and the Tourism Commission endures the proposal to extend the policy of visa exemption of for citizens of Western Europe, which will end July 1, 2016.

Moreover, the Tourism Commission also proposed the unilateral visa exemption for 13 countries whose citizens have trip organized by Vietnamese travel agencies. If this proposal is approved, Mr. Tuan believes that the number of travelers increases in Vietnam, and travel agencies are more responsible for their management.

Earlier, Vietnam unilaterally exempted visas for citizens of five countries: Germany, France, Britain, Italy and Spain from 7.1.2015 to 30.6.2016. The citizens of these countries should not have Vietnam visa for a stay of 15 days. This policy is effective when the number of travelers from these countries in Vietnam increases.

Especially after the first 3 months of 2016, the Italians increased 28%, Spanish, 27%, British 23%, Germans 19% and French 11%. Thus, the number of international travelers during the last 3 months reached over 2.4 million people, up nearly 20% over the same period last year.

Three months of the year also marked the growth of the travelers from the North – East region of Asia. In particular, Chinese visitors increased 66%, Korean 30%, Hong Kong 160%, Taiwan 15%, and Japanese 12%. Mr. Tuan attended: The exemption of Vietnam visa is an irreversible trend.
